RESEARCH WORK ON THE USE OF TEACHING AIDS IN SOCIAL STUDIES IN PRIMARY
SCHOOLS.
Teaching Aids are one of the basic components in the teaching- learning
process. An efficient teacher is always one who makes maximum utilisation of
these teaching aids while executing his work inside and outside the classroom.
But it is found out that most of the time teachers use only the text book and no
additional or supplementary teaching aids are made use of. It is a glaring fact
that even trained teachers seem to give least attention to this need. This has
therefore resulted in the low achievement of students, especially those coming
from rural and interior areas of the state. There might be a number of reasons
that have led to the non-utilisation of aids while teaching. It could be due to
non -availability of the materials or lack of creativeness on the part of the
teacher. It could also be due to lack of infrastructure or management problems
recto find out these causes, the research work was carried out by the D.I.E.T,
Nongpoh under the supervision of the Principal of the D.I.E.T. The purpose of
this research is to find out the utilization of Teaching Aids in the classroom,
and to make use of the cheap locally available material specifically in teaching
social studies

A STUDY ON THE CAUSES OF SCHOOL DROP-OUTS AMONG THE PUPIL'S AT THE PRIMARY
STAGE.
INTRODUCTION:
Education may be considered as a vital process in social sense. It is
indispensable for the development of an individual and the society. This world
would have been enveloped in the intellectual darkness had it not been
illuminated by the light of education. Attempts have been made by the government
of India to universalize education in all parts of the country with special
emphasis on Primary Education. Article 45 of the Indian Constitution makes
provision for Free and Compulsory Education for all children until they complete
the age of 14 years. Inspite of several attempts to fulfill the directive
principles, yet there is a huge wastage among the children in primary stage
especially in rural areas. In this sense, it was felt necessary to conduct a
study to find out the causes that led to the dropping out of these school
children of Ri-Bhoi District.
The study covers the following aspects:
1. Objectives.
(i) To find out the causes of dropout among the children at the primary stage
in Ri-Bhoi District.
(ii) To provide necessary suggestions so as to enable to contain the dropout.
2. Samples:-
In the study the following tools are used.
(i) Questionaires.
(ii) Interview Schedules.
The study is being conducted in a systematic procedure by employing the above
tools and collection of data is in progress.
